Mitte der siebziger Jahre  sagte Carlos Santana in einem Interview, 
als er nach seiner Einstellung zur Salsamusik gefragt wurde:

"I don't even like Salsa music, man, to be quite honest. To me it's very 
binding. Very few people do anything new with it, aside from Eddie 
Palmieri - everything is rehashed. What I do, since I know very little of it, 
is I use it the best way I can to express all the things I'm learning from 
other people.
Latin music is very contagious you know. Mahavishnu chose Indian music 
to express his mission here on earth, I'm chosing Latin music for right now. 
Tomorrow I may be into Funk or Brasilien music.
I like to branch out and play different forms of music. Right now I feel 
that I'm using, not abusing, the Latin music as a tool to express what 
I learnd from Mahavishnu, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter etc."

Betrachten wir die Entwicklung seiner Musik von da an bis heute, so stellen 
wir einerseits fest, daß er immer noch an der Salsa Musik festhält, 
andererseits aber auch, daß er mehr und mehr modernere Musik in seine 
Songs aufnimmt, siehe letztes Album " Supernatural ".

Auf jedem Fall ist er bis heute seiner Devise treu geblieben:            
"I like to branch out and play different forms of music"
Dennoch ist sein charakteristisches Bandklangbild erhalten geblieben, 
in erster Linie auch geprägt durch seine unverkennbare Spieltechnik, 
Spielweise und Spielfreude.                        

Salsa meets Rock and Pop, HipHop and House, Jazz and Blues...                        
Latin meets American and European Music...
Hard meets Soft, Backbeat meets Clave...
Black meets White and Yellow meets Red...
